Sailing by Design - The Program

One design sailing is the surest measure of personal performance and achievement in the world of sailboat racing.  Racing against others sailing in identical boats with identical rig and sail specifications removes the influence of boat design and rig or sail modifications on the race course, rightly placing the sailor  and crew as the focus of performance.

With two active  and mutually supportive fleets, Flying Scots and MC Scows, Sailing by Design represents the drive of sailors at LMSC to make ours the primary center of one design sailing on Lake Murray.  It is a blend of coaching and mentoring, on and off the water, combined with competitive events that allow our sailors to measure their progress throughout the process.

While focused on one design fleet development and making ourselves better sailors, every event is built around a sense of camaraderie and, in particular, mutual support.  We are first and foremost about having fun.  We check our egos at the entry gate.  “Old Salts” and “newbies” speak the same sailing language and treat each other with mutual respect. We like knowing that we are all traveling the same road to enjoyment and personal satisfaction.
